The Andrew Sisters
I have talked about Puppini Sisters that uses The Andrew Sisters as inspiration and I’ve talked about
Brox Sisters who came before, so I think it’s about time to actually post about The Andrew Sisters.
The Andrew Sisters were sisters, LaVerne, Maxene and Patty and the group formed when the youngest sister were seven. They started to become famous in the late 30’s and during World War II they entertained Allied forces in America, Europe and even Africa. During the 50’s they broke up, re-united and finally split after LaVernes’s death in 1967.
I find the Andrew Sisters wonderfully perky- you just can’t maintain a bad mood when you listen to them. They mainly sang swing and boogie-woogie, even if they did venture into other genres. All through the 40’s they stayed high on the US hit lists, between 6 to 11 songs in the top 30 every year, many of those hitting number one. I bet you that even if you have never listened to The Andrew Sisters, you have heard several of their hits as there are countless of covers on them.
