A review of WWII Era Flight Cap from Mrs Depew
As I told you recently I bought a few pdf-patterns from Mrs Depew Vintage & Notions and the first I tried was the WWII Era Flight Cap. The very short review is that I have only good things to say about the pattern.
Customer service Excellent! The owner stated that she was on vacation, so it could take up to 48 hours to get the pattern, but it took about 20 before I got them. There was a mix-up so I got one pattern wrong, but Mrs. Depew sent the right pattern within minutes after my mail.
The pattern Very nicely executed with clear lines.
Sewing it Extremely easy. From start to finish it took me less than two hours to make, and that includes putting the pattern pieces together. I think this is a very good beginners pattern as there are only two pattern pieces, so if hat making scares you, I think you should try this one.
The result My fabric was a bit too heavy, but also a bit too soft, so it was a bit difficult to press. I think a more lightweight and crisper fabric would improve the look. I still like the look and will very likely make this hat again. I also think you could make it into a very cute fascinator if you make the pattern pieces smaller.
THis came out beautifully! I'm just crazy about plaid. And thanks so much for the review, you're so thoughtful!
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about making one of these up over the weekend! Good to know that this pattern works nicely, if I decide to move forward with the project.
ReplyDeleteSo cute, love the style on you!
ReplyDeleteAdorable hat, love the look and plaid is just right for it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! I think even at full size it looks really cute, and I love your fabric choice. Maybe a stiff felt next time?? x
ReplyDeleteAnna Depew: Thank you. And of course, no more than fair to say it when I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteSarah: I look forward to see your version!
Erika: Thank you!
Living Vintage: Thanks! The plaid is going to make it into a coat eventually. :)
Kate O: Thank you! Yes, perhaps, if it's not too thick. :)
I really want one of these too. The pattern sounds great; definitely putting that down for when I get into a hat mode next time.
ReplyDeleteBetty. Highly recommended! I finished a 30's hat with a fin yesterday and it was easy work as well. :)
