Fraulein Frauke presents La Belle Paris
It's time again on March 10 and this time Fraulein Frauke is themed La Belle Paris, giving us the choice if we want the "La Belle Epoque" or the roaring twenties. For some odd reason Fraulein Frauke always seem to take place the weekends I work, but I will take a tired Sunday again and go- it's worth it. I have always had a lot of fun, the atmosphere is great and the entertainment splendid.
I'm so, so tempted to make a new dress for it. I think I will have a go at it, but have a back-up plan as I know that deadlines isn't good for me. I could, of course, make a 20's frock quite easily, but my figure isn't really suited for that silhouette and I will probably just feel frumpy. La Belle Epoque on the other hand... I have been looking as pictures of Anna Held, Ziegfield's common-in-law wife and star and would love to make something along those lines.
One rule, though, is that I have to use fabric I already have and when I went through my Photobucket and found this one, a masquerade costume for a clove.
Lovely, yes? As it happens I have absolutely masses of purple cotton sateen, inherited from my grandmother. The smocking makes the fitting easier too, I think, comparing to making a smooth bodice over a corset. I may have to buy something suitable for the green- possibly I will make the decorations a bit simplified, but I'll definitely use this frock as an inspiration.
What do you think? I have a month to make it...
(I apologize for the lack of 1940's in this post. It won't be a habit, but as I got a very nice mail form Fraulein Frauke, whom I don't know even if we have mutual friends, about my blog, I'd like to promote her excellent club in both my blogs.)

ReplyDeleteI hope you're making the dress! Belle Epoque and the twenties aren't my favourite epochs, so I'll be doing something else - an experiment of sorts, if everything turns out as planned. I'll keep an eye out for you!
ReplyDeletepimpinett: I'm working on it now! I posted the whole series of costumes here:

And a friend is making the star costume, so we'll be matching each other. I do like Belle Epoque, but has never got around making something from it. I'll look out for you too!
