Favourite shoes

You may remember that I bought a pair of Ars Allen shoes from Dance Store . They are quickly becoming my favourite everyday shoes. The heel isn't too high for walking and the net makes them cool in the summer heat, which makes them a good alternative to sandals. Perfect, in other words, for the hot and muggy day last Sunday when we visited Svindersvik, an 18th century house outside Stockholm.

The dress is from Pepperberry, Bravissimo's clothes brand. Though they make modern clothes, some do have a retro feel, like this blue one.

Svindervik is quite lovely- if you ever visit Stockholm and likes old houses, then I think it is well worth a visit.

  1. Adorable shoes / outfit :-)
Most of the time I´m between 40 and 41...could you tell me how long the insole of your shoes is? Still not sure which size I should order..:-)

  3. That dress is stunning on you! I like the shoes, but does the net not grate on your bare feet? I had a similar pair that I found most uncomfortable - I'd be interested to know whether these shoes are the solution!!

  4. Susan: Thank you! I can measure, but it will take a little while- I have to get back to you next week. I'm away on a trip and had to left the shoes at a cobbler. The downside on buying dance shoes, you have to re-sole them. My size is similar to yours, 40 1/2 at times, but usually 41. I read the sizing advice on this particular shoe and ordered accordingly and I'm very pleased with the fit.

    paisleapron: Thank you!

Debi: I'm currently contemplating getting them in white too!

Kate O: Thank you! No, I find the net very soft and comfortable, no chafing at all. Of course you may have more sensitive skin than I have, but I have walked around in the all day and not found the net the least bit uncomfortable.

  5. Love the dress! Love the shoes! Yes, you do, indeed, look lovely!

I have been looking for vintage-esque walking shoes and am eager to take a look at the Aris Allen. When you say that you have to have them re-soled....did you mean PRIOR to wearing them, OR frequently, as they wear out??

  6. Auntie: Thank you! Dance shoes have soles meant for indorr dancing, so if you walk outside they will wear out very quickly. Once re-soled they keep up much better. I have been using dance shoes as ordinary shoes for years as I have some problems with a foot and dance shoes are padded and often more comfortable than ordinary shoes. Plus they can often be found in retro styles, so I think the extra cost of re-soling them are worth it.

  7. Those shoes are so cute! I've been eyeing Aris Allen shoes for a couple years now, and just hesitated because they're dance shoes and I wasn't sure how they'd stand up to everyday (street) wear. Have you had them resoled yet?

  8. Lindsay: Thank you!

Casey: I love dancing shoes as they are so comfy! I have them at the cobblers right now, so you have to re-sole them pretty quick. I count the re-soling in when I buy dance shoes as I know they will need it soon. :) But apart from that I have always been pleased with the quality- they are meant to be used, after all.

  9. Hi, any details from the insole so far? :-)

  10. Susan: Sorry- I have been away and not been online much. I bought size 10 and the insoles are 26.3 cm. I usually wear European sixe 41, sometimes 40 1/2 is the sizes run large. The shoes fits very well, though on the roomy side.
