Year three

This year some of the old clothes are used to make new garments. It may look a little odd that shorts are supposed to be worn with a sundress, but imagine how much legs you can flash if you try to use a bicycle in a short summer dress, and it may not be so odd anymore. My mother remember that when she graduated from schools, my grandmother made a pair of matching shorts to the graduation dress, so my mother would show of her knickers when she was hoisted. Evidently hoisting was part of the celebrations... This was in the sixties, not the forties, but the idea is the same.

Notes
1. A housecoat is not only used to protect other clothes but can well be made in pretty colours in fabric that is easy to wash.
2. The old black evening gown gets a belt in green taffeta, matching the green evening shoes. The belt cut on the bias and in two layers of fabric.
3. The old grey dress is made into a blouse. The worn-out sleeves are discarded and new are made out the front of the skirt part, as well of new pieces under the sleeves (I don't quite get that). Can be worn both with the black and the brown skirt.
4. The winter coat in a heavy fabric can have collar in the same fabric, or in fur or velvet.
5. The blue dress in soft wool is an afternoon dress.

Notes
1. The grey suit is "chic" with white, brown or green blouse, brown, black or blue shoes with a matching beret.
2. Swedish easywashed cotton is without discussion the best and most suitable for a summer frock.
3. There is enough fabric in the skirt of the dotted evening gown to make a short dress.
4. The sandy coloured dress is for afternoon wear.
5. The blue evening gown is made out of solid coloured silk and should have lots of pleated parts. Suitable all year round
6. Striped cotton dress in white and red.

I am just in awe of your research. Really interesting to read even though I am not really a vintage kind of a person.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy reading it,though I haven't done that much research, just picked things out from a book. :)
